After trying out all kinds of instruments, Lyam Chenaux chose the cello at the age of 5.

As a fan of concerts and sharing with the public, he took part in numerous concerts in Switzerland and abroad from the age of 8.

At the age of 10, he performed for the first time as a soloist with the Budweis Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of David Svec. There he met Denis Severin, who has since become his teacher (HEM Genève-Neuchâtel).

He played as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the UniArt Orchestra in Paris, the Orchestre d’Yverdon (C. Delafontaine), the Orchestre National des Jeunesses Musicales Suisses (F.Théodoloz), Pforzeim Kammerorchester (A.Mayer), Ponticello (O.Gaillard), Quatuor Debussy (C. Colette), Camerata du Grand Genève, Neue Philharmonie Hambourg (P.Stylianou), Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra (A.Willis), CMNE (S. Ostrovski), Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (J. Kovacs), EAMT (T. Vavilov).

Talented, passionate and charismatic, he has won the Swiss Music Competition in all categories (solo, early music, composition and trio) as well as dozens of international competitions and special prizes, including in 2023 Classicalia Vienna, and “International Cello Competition ‘David Popper’ for young cellists” in Hungary.

In 2025, Lyam won first prize and special prizes at Young Musician Tallinn Competition (Estonia) and David Geringas International Cello Competition (Lituania). He will represent Switzerland at Thomas Kuti prize finale in Dublin in november 2025.

After 5 years with the Ministrings (T. Strinning, B. Batt), Lyam joined the LGT Young Soloists virtuoso ensemble at the age of 12 (dir. A. Gilman) and made his debut on major international stages (Singapore, Dubai, Austria, Germany, Australia, Norway, South America).

Lyam Chenaux plays a cello built by Antonio Guadagnini in Turin in 1881. The loan of this instrument was made possible thanks to the cultural and philanthropic initiative “Adopt a Musician”, promoted and sponsored by MusicMasterpieces SA – Lugano (Switzerland).

He went to highschool 2 years early and benefits from a tailor-made private school program. In addition to music, he enjoys cycling, watches, chess, political science and motor sports.

Since february 2025, Lyam is a scholarship holder of the Music Academy in Liechtenstein and is participating in the intensive weeks and activities of the Academy.
