Lyam Chenaux is a young Swiss and Italian cellist. He began playing the cello at the age of 5.
After studying for five years under the guidance of G. Leclerc, E.Goffart, and Denis Severin, he joined Thomas Grossenbacher’s class at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in Switzerland in 2026.
Passionate about performing and connecting with audiences, he made his solo debut at the age of 10.
He has since performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras in Switzerland and around the world, notably joining the virtuosos of the LGT Young Soloists ensemble (directed by A. Gilman) at the age of 12.
Lyam has won numerous first prizes and special awards at national and international competitions.
In 2026, Lyam was named the grand winner of the show PRODIGES on France Television and signed with Warner Classics for his debut album, set for release in late 2026.
That same year, he was selected to join the prestigious and highly competitive Soloist Academy at the Verbier Festival.
In 2025, his victories included the David Geringas International Cello Competition (Lithuania) and the Young Musician Competition in Tallinn (Estonia).
He was also appointed principal cellist of the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra upon his very first participation and received a special prize at the Thomas Kuti Prize finals in Dublin.
In 2023, he was a laureate at the Classicalia finals (Vienna) and the David Popper International Cello Competition for Young Cellists in Hungary.
Lyam has participated in numerous masterclasses with renowned masters such as J-P. Maintz, F. Helmerson, D. Müller-Schott, W-S. Yang, T. Svane, A. Gastinel, R. Latzko, among many others.
Since February 2025, Lyam has held a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, taking part in its intensive weeks and activities.
He is an artist supported by Thomastik-Infeld Vienna and serves as a brand ambassador for ANDERSEN Genève timepieces.
Lyam Chenaux plays a cello built by Antonio Guadagnini in Turin in 1881. The loan of this instrument was made possible thanks to the cultural and philanthropic initiative “Adopt a Musician”, promoted and sponsored by MusicMasterpieces SA – Lugano (Switzerland).
Beyond music, Lyam is deeply passionate about watchmaking, motorsports, political science, and physics.
